Theia is a stoneware, hand-thrown bowl by ceramicist Abigail Schama. She is painted with a palette of dolomite and transparent glazes over a dark clay body, and touched with gold flecks. Her namesake, the Greek Titaness, was said to have endowed gold, silver and gems with their brilliance. She is the mother of Selene. She is suitable as a decorative piece or to hold fruit. All glazes are food safe.

The making of...

Each piece is the result of an intimate wrangle with the artist on the wheel. Abigail Schama works with a palette of transparent glazes and 24-carat gold lustre layered over a darker clay body. She marks the exterior and interior surfaces, creating a rugged, human tactility and imbuing each vessel with its own inner life. Each pieces' form and contours play on the edges of functionality; no two pieces are alike.
