Megaera is a wheel-thrown, stoneware ceramic vase by Abigail Schama. She is formed of a dark clay body and painted with a transparent white glaze, one side is daubed with green. Her opening is narrow, flecked with gold lustre, and reveals little of the space within. She is named for one of the Three Furies, Megaera, or "the jealous one". She is suitable as a decorative piece or to hold flowers.

The making of...

Each piece is the result of an intimate wrangle with the artist on the wheel. Abigail Schama works with a palette of transparent glazes and 24-carat gold lustre layered over a darker clay body. She marks the exterior and interior surfaces, creating a rugged, human tactility and imbuing each vessel with its own inner life. Each pieces' form and contours play on the edges of functionality; no two pieces are alike.
