Venus is a hand-thrown ceramic stoneware plate by Abigail Schama. She is formed of a dark clay body and dipped in a white glaze with slight blueish hues. The dark clay peeks through unglazed areas and indentations. Her namesake is the multi-faceted and revered Roman goddess of love and war. She is suitable as a decorative piece or to hold a sumptuous meal. All glazes are food safe.
The making of...
Each piece is the result of an intimate wrangle with the artist on the wheel. Abigail Schama works with a palette of transparent glazes and 24-carat gold lustre layered over a darker clay body. She marks the exterior and interior surfaces, creating a rugged, human tactility and imbuing each vessel with its own inner life. Each pieces' form and contours play on the edges of functionality; no two pieces are alike.
