Tisiphone is a wheel-thrown, stoneware ceramic vase by Abigail Schama. She is formed of a combination of dark and light clay, her textured surface is stormy with hues of colors of carmine, ochre, and white. She is named for one of the Three Furies, Tisiphone, or "avenger of murder". She is suitable as a decorative piece or to hold flowers.
The making of...
Each piece is the result of an intimate wrangle with the artist on the wheel. Abigail Schama works with a palette of transparent glazes and 24-carat gold lustre layered over a darker clay body. She marks the exterior and interior surfaces, creating a rugged, human tactility and imbuing each vessel with its own inner life. Each pieces' form and contours play on the edges of functionality; no two pieces are alike.
